Bridge Housing celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage on Australia Day at this year’s vibrant Yabun Festival.

We hosted a stand at the event, the biggest annual gathering of First Peoples in Australia, on Saturday in Victoria Park, Broadway.

Tenant Participation Officer Natasha Sitanala and Housing Pathways Manager Megan Caldwell talked to tenants and other festival attendees who visited the stand to learn more about Bridge Housing’s housing options and how we work with our tenant communities. Their trays of fresh oranges proved a popular snack in the sweltering heat on Saturday!

CEO John Nicolades also attended the event to meet tenants and the local community. “January 26 is an important time to reflect on what nationhood means to Australia’s first peoples and how we can best celebrate their long and continuous heritage and connection with the land,” he said.

Sydney’s Invasion Day Rally, attended by some 6,000 people, was the biggest such rally in Australia and ended at the Yabun festival.
