Bridge Housing staff participated today in an insightful, workshop by the Black Dog Institute on supporting each other for mental wellbeing in the workplace.

Workplace change and mental health facilitator Anne Riches said: “It’s an absolute honour to give back to your sector because I grew up in Council housing in the UK and it had a profound impact on my upbringing. I know the people you help every day because I grew up in such an environment.”

Acting CEO Rebecca Pinkstone said the work of frontline staff, dealing with vulnerable people and the mental wellbeing of residents, can be inherently stressful. Bridge Housing is also undergoing unprecedented growth and change, which also impacts staff, she said.

Bridge Housing decided to work with the Black Dog Institute after our employee engagement survey revealed some staff are experiencing these workplace pressures.

Anne spoke about recognising the different signs of depression, anxiety and stress in the workplace and about reaching out to colleagues evidencing these changes in behaviour. She also outlined the five ways to wellbeing: connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.
