Housing Team Leader North Dejan Maric worked for Bridge Housing for 18 months in 2011-12, leading the Pathways Team in our old Redfern office. Now he’s back in our new Brookvale office.

In the past seven years, he has seen our organisation grow significantly and diversify in ways that make his new role all the more exciting.

“I’ve always gravitated towards leadership roles in organisations that help others,” Dejan said. “Having a roof over your head is the most critical need, apart from having water, so we play an extremely important role in housing our residents and linking them to the supports they need.”

Dejan arrived in Australia as a teenage refugee from the war-torn former Yugoslavia with no English but a drive to adapt and succeed. From his first job packing shelves at Franklins supermarket, Dejan moved into the community housing sector, first with St George, then Mission Australia and Argyle. He established the last provider’s presence in Canberra.

However, marriage, the arrival of seven-month-old son Milan, and family ties convinced Dejan that Sydney was the best place to settle and continue his career. “It’s great to be back at Bridge and it never feels like hard work when your personal values align with your organisation’s values.”
