The North tenant profile reflects our new portfolio and some 1,200 new residents who joined us on the Northern Beaches from 5 August 2019. We will shortly be updating our tenant data to reflect the latest tenant profile and characteristics in the other areas in which we operate.

North

The Northern Beaches region stretches from Pittwater in the north to Manly in the south and is governed locally by the Northern Beaches Council

As of August 2019, we in partnership with the Women’s Housing Company, house 1620 people living in 1233 dwellings in this area.

  • Around half of all residents are aged 65 or over
  • 0.01% of people identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • 75% of households are single people
  • 59% of households are women
  • 20% of residents are from a non-English speaking background
  • Over 60% of tenants experience a disability.

Inner West

The Inner West area of Sydney includes the Ashfield, Strathfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Leichhardt and Marrickville Local Government Areas.

As of January 2015, we house 824 people living in 447 dwellings in this area.

  • 29 per cent of Bridge Housing residents live in the Inner West in January 2015, down from 30 per cent in July 2014.
  • Around 36 per cent of tenants live in unit blocks with at least three Bridge Housing tenants for neighbours, around a quarter live in mixed neighbourhoods with Housing NSW residents and 64 per cent live alongside other renters and private owners.
  • Just under a quarter of adult residents are people living with disability.
  • Just over a quarter of residents are over 60.
  • A quarter of residents are children and 17 per cent of households are headed by a sole parent.
  • 7 per cent of residents are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Nearly a third of Bridge residents in this area speak a language other than English at home including Vietnamese, Arabic, and Mandarin. 

City & Eastern suburbs

The City of Sydney and Eastern Suburbs includes the Sydney, Randwick, Waverley, Botany Bay and Woollahra Local Government Areas.

As of January 2015, we house 1,392 people living in 856 dwellings in this area.  

  • 49 per cent of Bridge Housing residents live in the City and Eastern Suburbs in January 2015, down from 51 per cent in July 2014.
  • Around 36 per cent of tenants live in unit blocks with at least three Bridge Housing tenants for neighbours, around a quarter of these live in mixed neighbourhoods with Housing NSW residents and 64 per cent live alongside other renters and private owners.
  • Just over a quarter of adult residents are people living with disability.
  • Nearly two thirds of tenants living in this area live alone.
  • Just over a quarter of residents are over 60.
  • Nearly 1 out of 5 residents are children
  • 10 per cent of residents are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Only 16 per cent of Bridge residents in this area speak a language other than English at home including Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Central Western

The Central Western area of Sydney includes the Auburn, Parramatta and Holroyd Local Government Areas.

As of January 2015, we house 366 people living in 225 dwellings in this area.  

  • 13 per cent of Bridge Housing residents live in Central Western Sydney (96 per cent in the Parramatta LGA) in January 2015, up from 11 per cent in July 2014.
  • Around 79 per cent of tenants live in unit blocks with at least three Bridge Housing tenants for neighbours.The rest live in mixed neighbourhoods alongside other renters and private owners.
  • Nearly a third of adult residents in this area are people living with disability.
  • Just over a quarter of residents are over 60.
  • 1 out of 5 residents are children.
  • 4 per cent of residents are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • One third of Bridge residents in this area speak a language other than English at home including Arabic, Turkish and Spanish.

Canterbury-Bankstown

The Canterbury-Bankstown area comprises the Canterbury and Bankstown Local Government Areas.

As of January 2015, we house 263 people living in 148 dwellings in this area.  

  • 8 per cent of Bridge Housing residents live in the Canterbury-Bankstown area in January 2015, up from 7 per cent in July 2014.
  • Around 53 per cent of tenants live in unit blocks with at least three Bridge Housing tenants for neighbours. The rest live in mixed neighbourhoods alongside other renters and private owners.
  • A quarter of adult residents are people living with disability.
  • Nearly a third of residents are over 60.
  • Nearly 1 out of 5 residents are children.
  • 2 per cent of residents are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • More than half of Bridge residents in this area speak a language other than English at home including Arabic, Vietnamese and Mandarin.
