Bridge tenants celebrate We Are Here Now in art

Thu 31, May 2018

Bridge Housing tenants, staff and community joined together last night to recognise the artistic achievements of tenants at the We are Here Now art exhibition.

Hosted at Projects 107 in Redfern St Redfern, the exhibition featured the work of 20 tenant artists as part of our National Reconciliation Week 2018 celebrations.

It asks the questions: Who are community housing residents? What are our stories? The exhibition aims to bring people together, to learn and share our cultures to invite communities to engage with a difference.

Aboriginal storyteller Jennifer Thomson told a story about kindness and community, and Aboriginal writer and poet Love Tru performed one of her own poems.

Officially opening the event, CEO John Nicolades said: “Here tonight we’ve got a diversity of talent within the Bridge Housing tenants. People who’ve shown they’ve got agency and resilience and great cultural practice.”

“We are seeing a re-emergence of an appreciation for a deep and complex history, pride in Aboriginal identity, the rediscovery of language, control over land, and both cultural and artistic practice. Congratulations to all our artists.”

The exhibition will run daily 11am – 5pm from 31 May – 3 June. Entry is free.
